The main objectives were to reduce cost of ongoing charges and improve performance and reliability of the network.
Business grade DSL services were being utilised with a speed of 512k and in some instances reliability seemed to be a factor with sites experiencing constant downtime. A feasibility study was undertaken to see the viability of using a point to multipoint microwave system. Our findings concluded that this was viable and a staged network implementation plan was put into place.
A multipoint base station was installed onto the main office with an extender some 6kms away on a site with good geographical location. Then each proposed client site was checked for line of site or where required an RF survey was conducted to check the individual requirements of each site. All sites were installed and tested and so far the reliability has proven in most cases to be better than the previous systems. Overhead costs have been dramatically reduced and performance has seen a major increase.
